Research and Taxonomy

The Research and Taxonomy section of the SANBI biodiversity advisor is designed to provide access to on-line information on biological species and specimens collected and curated by SANBI.

This information is valuable to support further research in filling our knowledge gaps on biological diversity, refining classification of species and to assist with the identification of species. This information is also important in monitoring biodiversity loss and change, to support climate change research, developing biodiversity plans and to inform land-use decision making.

Two SANBI collected and/or curated databases are (follow the links below or click on the images to the right):

  • SANBI's Integrated Biodiversity Information System (SIBIS),
  • Plants of southern Africa (POSA)
