Morphological description

Plants to 230 mm tall; basal leaf solitary, sessile, broadly cordate or orbicular with a cordate base, 10-40 x 8-20 mm. Inflorescences with the bracts spathaceous, oblong-lanceolate, subacute, pubescent, 9-12 mm long. Flowers with pale mauve petals and lip and greenish sepals. Sepals shallowly cucullate, lanceolate, subacute, pubescent, 6-12 mm long, slightly recurved. Petals linear-lanceolate, narrowly acuminate, 8-14 mm long, recurved. Lip spreading, fan-shaped, up to 35 x 30 mm, divided into 4-6 lobes with up to 26 filiform segments; spur down-curved, narrowly conical, 8-12 mm long. Terrestrial herb, geophyte, up to 0.23 m high; with small, globose, root tubers. Leaf solitary, basal and appressed to ground, reniform-orbicular, up to 18 mm in diam. Inflorescence normally 1-flowered. Sepals subequal, free, erect, green; dorsal sepal 8-12 mm long. Petals white to mauve, up to 17 mm long. Lip spurred, up to 32 mm long, conspicuously fimbriate, many linear lobes, apices pointed, same colour as petals; spur 8-12 mm long. Flowering time Sept., Oct. Growing in asscociation wtih Drimia capensis, Disperis villosa, Moraea fugacissima, Wurmbea marginata, Pelargonium triste, Gladiolus alatus, Gladiolus hirsutus, Babiana ambigua, Lachenalia orchioides and Holothrix villosa. Vegetation Type=Overberg Sandstone Fynbos.
