Morphological description

Corolla tube 23-32 mm long, 12-13 mm in diameter, white to yellow; limb yellow; lobes 13-15 mm long, 11-13 mm wide. Stigma 2-3 mm in diameter, globose. From: Randle, CP. 2006. Diagnostic description

The blight yellow or white flowers H. purpurea subsp. sulphurea are distinctive; however, pressed material is indistinguishable from most specimens of subsp. purpurea, if corolla color is not recorded on the specimen label. Fortunately, these two subspecies have only a small zone of overlap. Subspecies sulphurea is rarely collected, perhaps due to its limited distribution. From: Randle, CP. 2006.
