Morphological description

Perennials with decumbent to prostrate stems up to 0.15 m long, often much branched, with fibrous roots. Leaves oblanceolate, rarely obovate, (30-)40-80(-110) x 20-35(-40) mm, cuneate, rounded and often mucronate, dorsiventrally flattened and with a horny margin usually restricted to the upper part, grey green and more or less covered with purple spots. Inflorescence a spike-like thyrse with 1,2(-3)-flowered cymes, 0.2-0.35(-0.5) m long, green to purple; pedicels 1-2(-3) mm long. Buds terete, abruptly tapering into apex, spreading. Calyx 1.5-2.5 mm long, grey-green. Corolla with cylindrical tube 9-12 mm long, green and more or less tinged brown; lobes broadly triangular, 1.5-2.5 mm long, cuspidate, rough and without trichomes, white to pale pink and with darker mucro. Clump-forming, fibrous-rooted, succulent perennial, with branches up to 0.15 m tall. Leaves sessile, oblanceolate to obovate, dorsiventrally flattened, grey-green, occasionally red-spotted, with margin horny in upper half. Diagnostic description

The most common species in Namaqualand which shows some local variation in the length of the stems and the amount of branching, the size and shape of the leaves and the number and intensity of purple markings thereon.
