Morphological description

Shrub or small to medium-sized tree 3-7(-12) m tall, also occasionally described as a creeper; bark grey, smooth or rough; branchlets glabrous to sparsely pubescent or subtomentose. Leaves trifoliolate, mostly discolorous and drying deep or purplish brown above, grey-green beneath; petiole 0.8-5(-6.5) cm long; leaflets elliptic, distinctly obovate or ± round, 1-10(-14) cm long, 0.8-5.5(-8) cm wide but predominantly small, emarginate to acute (mostly rather obtuse) at the apex, attenuate to cuneate at the base, shallowly crenate to irregularly dentate or serrate, glabrous to densely pubescent or velvety and often with conspicuous hair-tufts in nerve-axils beneath; indumentum usually greyish. Inflorescences usually unbranched, 2-18(-22) cm long, but occasionally with a few branches 1-3(-12) cm long; peduncles1.2-5.5 cm long; cymules 1-5-flowered, subsessile, usually closely placed, sometimes very dense; pedicels 1-2(-3) mm. Long, pubescent or glabrous. Flowers green or yellowish white; outer sepals broadly elliptic, ±1 mm long and wide, inner ±round, 1 mm long, 1-1.5 mm wide; petals spathulate, 1 mm long, 0.5 mm wide. Filaments 1-2 mm long, hairy at base. Style 1 mm long, hairy; stigma 0.5 mm long.
