EN Indigenous Endemic

Morphological description

Calyx tube 8-angled, with large sessile glands around margin adaxially; anther pore 4/5 the length of theca. From: Oliver, EGH. 2000. Systematics of Ericeae (Ericaceae-Ericiodeae) species with indehiscent and partially indehiscent fruits. Contr. Bolus Herb. 19: 3-472. [All rights reserved]

Diagnostic description

This subspecies is distinguished by its 8-angled calyx tube which is hirsute over with a row of large sessile glands around the margins adaxially and by anther pores being 4/5 the length of the thecae. The stickiness produced by the sessile glands is unusual in being confined to the area of the corolla adjacent to the calyx lobes unlike the completely sticky corolla in the species belonging to the Viscid Group. From: Oliver, EGH. 2000. Systematics of Ericeae (Ericaceae-Ericiodeae) species with indehiscent and partially indehiscent fruits. Contr. Bolus Herb. 19: 3-472. [All rights reserved]

Habitat

The habitat is open sandy slopes between short restiad clumps and other ericoid shrublets. From: Oliver, EGH. 2000. Systematics of Ericeae (Ericaceae-Ericiodeae) species with indehiscent and partially indehiscent fruits. Contr. Bolus Herb. 19: 3-472. [All rights reserved]

Distribution

It occurs from the Zwartberg at Caledon to Zoetemelksvlei near Riviersonderend. From: Oliver, EGH. 2000. Systematics of Ericeae (Ericaceae-Ericiodeae) species with indehiscent and partially indehiscent fruits. Contr. Bolus Herb. 19: 3-472. [All rights reserved]
