Suffruticose, procumbent, thinly cano-sericeous; branches compressed-angular; leaves petiolate, trifoliolate; leaflets lanceolate, acute, prominently ribbed beneath, silky-subsilvery on each side; stipules small, subulate, recurved; racemes subspicate, on long peduncles; bracts shorter than the calyx; calyx semi-fid, the segments lanceolate; petals puberulous; legumes pendulous, compresso-terete, silky-canescent. Prostrate or decumbent suffrutex, up to 0.4 m high; stems angular, appressed canescent-strigillose. Stipules 1-3 mm long, subulate-falcate. Leaves: rachis sometimes extended to 1 mm beyond lateral leaflets; petioles (3)4-20 mm long. Terminal leaflet (3)4-28 x 1-5 mm, oblong, oblanceolate or elliptic, ± complicate, strigose above, more densely strigose below, apex ± rounded, mucronate. Inflorescences of 20-90 mm long, 10-20(25)-flowered racemes; peduncle 10-40(45) mm long; pedicels 0.5-1.0 mm long. Flowers 8.0-10.5 mm long, orange-red; calyx 2-3 mm long, appressed canescent-strigillose; lobes triangular, ± equalling tube; standard moderately densely crisped pubescent dorsally; keel apex rostrate. Stems decumbent, the ends ascending, 1-2 feet long. Petioles 0.5-1 inch long. Leaflets 0.75-1 inch long. Peduncles 4-5 inches long. Stipules much shorter than the petiole, and mostly hooked backwards. Flowers pinky-purple. Legumes 1-1.25 inch long. This is scarcely more than a dwarf, and therefore procumbent, variety of I. psoraleoides, from drier ground.
