• Fruit a globose capsule, sometimes depressed, often 3-lobed, dehiscent into bivalved cocci; endocarp woody, separating from pericarp at maturity; columella persistent
• Seeds usually 2 per coccus; albumen scanty or copious; cotyledons thick and fleshy
