Description :

  • Shrublets, rigid
  • Leaves small, broadly ovate, glabrous, densely imbricate in 4 rows, squarrose, entire
  • Flowers in terminal heads, intermixed with rigid, leaf-like bracts; bracteoles 2
  • Calyx much shorter than corolla tube, glabrous; tube shallowly basin-shaped; lobes lanceolate
  • Corolla 5-lobed, glabrous; tube long, cylindric; lobes lanceolate
  • Stamens 5, arising in corolla throat, scarcely exserted; filaments linear, shorter than anthers; anthers 2-thecous, linear
  • Ovary obconic, 3-locular, with several ovules in each locule on apical placentas; style slender, terete, exserted; stigma of 3 recurved, fleshy lobes
  • Fruit a capsule, dehiscing through a terminal lid, crowned with persistent style base
