Description:

  • Soft, climbing, ± glabrous annual herbs, with tendriliform ultimate leaflets
  • Inflorescences many-flowered racemes, opposite upper leaves, peduncles lengthening as fruit ripens; pedicels very short, equal
  • Flowers small, pink, with short triangular spur
  • Petals: posterior one spurred at base, inner ones with forwardly projecting prominent triangular wings
  • Ovary elliptic; style filiform, curved; stigma with two small erect papillae
  • Fruit (utricle) 1-seeded, orbicular, flattened, membranous, with a central nerve and margin wing-like, indehiscent, tipped with base of persistent style
  • Seed lenticular, beaked, shiny, with thick black testa
