  • Female inflorescence of a few large racemose spikelets; spathes caducous, soon exposing spikelets
  • Female spikelets: perianth segments osseous, brown, subequal, outer lateral ones not keeled; staminodes well developed; ovary 3-locular; styles 3, plumose
  • Fruit dehiscent
  • Seeds large, highly ornamented
