Morphological description

Herbacea erecta ramosa, ad 80 cm. alta; rami elongati, superne pedunculoidei, teretes pubescentes, pilis saepius reflexis, crispulatis brevibus, internodiis 3-6 cm. longis; folia radicalia nulla, caulina adsccndentia, breviter connata, interdum in petiolum attenuata, pinnatipartita, lobis 2-3-jugatis, irregulariter lobata-dentatis, terminali multo majore, obovato vel oblongo, basi cuncato, 2.5-4.5 cm. longo, 1.5-3 cm. lato, lateralibus infimis dentiformibus vel ad 1.5 cm. longis, molliter pubescentia vel glabrescentia, ad 5.5 cm. longa; pedunctili solitarii, 6-17 cm. longi; capitula 1.5-2 cm. diam.; involucri folia 1-vel imperfecte 2-seriata, floribus aequilonga vel longiora, ad 1-5 cm. longa; receptaculum oblongum, bracteis rhomboidco-spathulatis, 0.3-0.4 cm. longis; flores albi vel lilacini, 0.9-1.4 cm. longi; involucellum 0.2 cm. longum; fructus non visus. An erect, branched herb to 80 cm tall, with elongated, pedunculiform, terete, pubescent stems bearing reflexed, crisped hairs, and internodes 3–6 cm long; radical leaves absent; cauline leaves ascending, shortly connate, sometimes attenuate to a petiole, pinnatipartite with 2–3 pairs of irregularly lobed-dentate lobes, the terminal lobe much larger, obovate or oblong, cuneate at the base, 2.5–4.5 cm long, 1.5–3 cm wide, lower lateral lobes dentiform to 1.5 cm long, softly pubescent or glabrescent, to 5.5 cm long; peduncles solitary, 6–17 cm long; capitula 1.5–2 cm diameter; involucral bracts 1- or imperfectly 2-seriate, equalling or exceeding the florets, to 1.5 cm long; receptacle oblong, with rhomboid-spathulate bracts 0.3–0.4 cm long; florets white or lilac, 0.9–1.4 cm long; involucel 0.2 cm long; fruit not seen. Weak, branched shrublet, erect, up to 1 m high; glabrescent to pubescent. Stems leafy, lower stem nude. Leaves ± sessile to attenuate into a petiole, outline obovate to ovate-lanceolate, margins irregularly dentate to pinnatipartite, up to 55 mm long. Flower heads single, on leafless peduncles up to 170 mm long, subglobose, up to 30 mm in diam.; involucral bracts linear-lanceolate, up to 10 mm long; receptacle bracts 3 mm long. Calyx with 5 setae, 1.5 mm long. Corolla pale mauve, lilac, purple, up to 14 mm long, irregularly 5-lobed. Flowering time Nov.-May.
