This species is variable in size of the vegetative and the floral parts and the orientation of the te-pals. Most morphological criteria overlap with Mystacidium venosum, and flowering time is used here as the final criterion in deciding the identity of dubious specimens. Even then there are some specimens intermediate in size, that have been collected in autumn. From: Kurzweil, H; Linder, HP. 1999. Orchids of Southern Africa. A.A. Balkema, Rotterdam.
