Morphological description

Leaves narrower, usually < 5 mm diam.; walls of hypanthium erect. Erect shrublet to 40 cm, with slender branches from base. Leaves < 5 mm diam. Flowers in monochasia, magenta, remaining open, outer filamentous staminodes red, inner yellow with red tips, reproductive parts hidden. Fruits 5-7 mm diam. From: Klak, C. 2012. General notes: Fynbos biome. Swartland Shale Renosterveld vegetation. Gentle, hill slope. Well-drained, loam, stony soil. Shale. Full sun. N aspect. No biotic effect seen. Succulent. Petals deep purple, cone purple. Laxly branched, at 45°. Petals all reflexed. Flowers and fruit present. Plant height 0.45 m. Locally common, on shales at base of mountain. Veld >6 years old, and in recently burnt veld.
