Annual herb. Stems retrorsely setulose, prostrate or scandent to 3 m. Leaf-lamina 2-10 x 2-9·5 cm, triangular, subhastate, ovate or broadly ovate in outline, cordate, membraneous, rather densely hispid-setulose above and beneath, especially on the veins, unlobed or usually palmately 3-5-lobed, the lobes usually triangular, obscurely and remotely to rather closely and conspicuously sinuate-denticulate, the central usually much the largest, often acuminate, obtuse to acute, apiculate, the lateral often much shorter and blunter. Petioles 2·5-11·5 cm long, retrorsely setulose. Male flowers 3-6 in each fascicle, rarely solitary; pedicels 3-15 mm long, slender, setulose. Receptacle-tube 2-6·5 mm long, hispid externally; lobes 1-6 mm long. Corolla-lobes 2·5-11 mm long, pale yellow to pale orange-yellow, rounded, apiculate. Female flowers on 3-10 mm pedicels; ovary 4-8 x 2-4 mm, ovoid, densely setulose; perianth as in male flower. Fruit 1·5-2·7 x 1·3-2·1 cm, ovoid to ellipsoid, usually shortly rostrate, green or yellow; fruit-stalk 1-2·5 cm long. Seeds 5-6·5 x 3-3·5 x 0·6-1 mm, obscurely foveolate. From: Jeffrey, C. 1978. 86. Prostrate or scandent herb. Tendrils simple. Leaves triangular, subhastate, ovate, cordate, densely hispid-setulose, unlobed or palmately 3-5-lobed, lobes triangular, central largest, petiolate. Male flowers in fascicles of 3-6, pedicels 3-15 mm long. Female flowers solitary, pedicels 3-10 mm long. Fruit ovoid to ellipsoid, 15-27 x 13-21 mm, shortly rostrate.
