Plants synanthous, solitary, inflorescence up to 400 mm high. Tuber simple, globose to sub-globose, sometimes becoming compound and irregular in shape with age, up to 40 mm long and 45 mm wide; roots arising centrally, short and stout; skin dark brown, rough, interior deep pink to maroon red; growing point apical. Old leaf sheaths forming a Fibrous neck up to 65 mm high and 25 mm wide. Leaves 2-5, erect to suberect; contemporary sheaths barely exserted. sheath of outer laminae surrounding the inner; lamina ovate, largest suberect, basally channeled, up to 90 mm long and 40 mm wide, glabrous to pubescent, bright green, coriaceous to fleshy. Peduncle up to 330 mm long, 3 mm diameter, light green, glabrous or basally pilose. Raceme cylindrical to narrowly conical, up to 200 mm long, 35 mm wide, with up to 50 flowers. Bracts ovale, attenuate, semi-amplexicaul, 1-2 mm long, membranous. Pedicels lowest, up to 25 mm, shorter above, light green, erecto-patent. Flowers campanulate, becoming recurved in the afternoon sun, facing upwards, up to 21 mm diameter. Tepals equal, ligulate, 9-10 mm long, 2 mm wide, connate for 1 mm at the base, bright yellow with a green midnerve. Filaments adnate to the base of the tepals, filiform, erect, up to 6 mm long, yellow; anthers about 0.5 mm long, yellow. Ovary ovoid with well-marked divisions, 2.5 mm high, 2 mm wide, pale green.
