Annual herb, ± 1.5 m high, climbing; stems hollow, internodes long; sap yellow. Leaves bipinnately compound, parallel-sided, 3-fid at tip, ultimate segments tendrilliform. Inflorescences racemes 8-15-flowered; pedicels erect, apically recurved. Flowers with very short pedicels, pale rose with dark tips. Flowering time (Aug.) Oct.-Dec. Fruit a pendent, discoid samara, 3.0-3.5 mm in diam., peripheral wing 0.5-0.8 mm wide; pubescent with unicellular trichomes, cuticle striate. Seed lenticular, testa glossy black, epidermal cells hexagonal. Bush clumps, usually in sheltered valleys or drainage lines; Eastern Fynbos-Renosterveld, Indigenous Forests. Restricted to moist, loamy or humic soils at forest edges and bush clumps, usually in sheltered valleys or drainage lines; Eastern Fynbos-Renosterveld, Indigenous Forests.
