Erect, woody shrubs up to 1.7 m tall; sprouting from a woody rootstock after fire. Leaves (17-)23-32(-55) x (12-)22-30(-55) mm, ovate, broadly ovate to almost circular, flat to often somewhat concave; apex mucronulate; base cordate; both surfaces densely woolly-tomentose; lower surface with venation distinct only on old leaves; petioles 2 mm long. Inflorescences 1(-2)-flowered. Peduncles shorter than the subtending leaves. Bracts 7-10 x 4-10 mm, lanceolate to broadly ovate, apex acuminate, base with a broad zone of attachment, not calyptrate. Pedicel 5-7 mm long. Calyx ± as long as keel; lobes lanceolate, acuminate, much longer than tube, becoming reflexed at anthesis, tube with a split (disruption) between upper two lobes; densely woolly-tomentose. Corolla bright pink with a white nectar guide. Standard broadly obovate, 30-32 mm broad. Nectar well double. Ovary 11-12-ovuled. Pods obliquely-oblong, inflated; densely villous. Podalyria cordata is recognized by the dense woolly-tomentose indumentum on the stems, leaves and calyces; short petioles (2 mm long); lanceolate to broadly ovate bracts and distinctly cordate leaves.
