Morphological description

Plants erect, scape without bracts, stout, hispid with reflexed hairs, 60-310 mm high; leaves sometimes withered at anfhesis, densely covered with small squamules or stout hairs. Flowers: Sepals densely pilose, 1-2.5 mm long. Petals entire, carnose at apices, 2.5-3.5 x 0.5-1.5 mm, sometimes warty in texture, yellow-green. Lip carnose, ovate in outline with 3-5 short, broad lobes 2.5-3.5 x 2-3.5 mm, sometimes warty, yellow-green; spur slightly curved, 1-2 mm long. From: Kurzweil, H; Linder, HP. 1999. Terrestrial herb, geophyte with root tubers, up to 0.32 m high. Scape with stiff deflexed hairs. Leaves 2, flat on ground, up to 12 mm wide, densely hairy above, withering before flowering. Inflorescence a lax, hairy raceme; flowers secund, many, greenish yellow. Sepals subequal, connivent; dorsal sepal 2 mm long. Petals narrowly oblong, 3 mm long. Slender, tuberous geophyte to 31 cm, scape stiffly deflexed-hairy. Leaves 2, basal, ovate, stiffly hairy or scaly. Diagnostic description

The squamules or stout hairs on the leaves of this species and the reflexed hairs on the scape are similar to those of Holothrix cernua.
