Morphological description

Prostrate annual to 5 cm. Leaves terete, fleshy. Flowers in axillary umbels on peduncles shorter than leaves, whitish, stamens 3-5. From: Manning, JC; Goldblatt, P. 2012. Molluginaceae. Glaucous, prostrate herb, 0.02-0.12 m high; branches ascending, purplish with age. Leaves alternate, filiform to cylindrical, ± fleshy, slightly glandular; stipules entire, membranous, adnate to leaf base, forming dilated, amplexicaul sheath. Inflorescences axillary, 3-5-flowered umbels; peduncles up to 8 mm long. Perianth segments 5, the outer 2 or 3 subsucculent, the inner narrower, membranous, cucullate, whitish or pink. Staminodes 0. Stamens 3(5). Stigmas 3-5, short. Flowering time Dec.-Apr. Fruit a membranous, rounded loculicidal, 3-5-valved capsule. Seeds brown or black, kidney-shaped, shining, minutely punctuate.
