Perennial herb, with rootstock producing a tuft of fusiform roots. Stems slender, glabrous, sparingly-branched, climbing. Leaves rudimentary, ± lanceolate. Flowers solitary, extra-axillary. Sepals lanceolate, 3-6 mm long. Corolla 40-60 mm long; tube globose-inflated at base, gradually expanded towards mouth, glabrous; lobes 15-25(-30) mm long, spathulate towards apex, 3-7 mm broad, variably connate towards apex, with margins ± recurved, usually with an abundance of long clavate hairs spreading in all directions, kneed and purple-coloured, variably positioned from near middle to near base. Corona shortly connate at base, with 5 deeply or moderately bilobulate lobes; inner lobes incumbent-erect. From: Dyer, RA. 1980. Asclepiadaceae. In: OA Leistner (ed.). Fl. S. Africa 27(4): 1-88. [CC BY] As: Ceropegia geniculata R.A.Dyer
Variation is the keynote of most floral characters of this species: the corolla-lobes or struts are short and broad or long and narrow; long, purple, vibratile hairs are present on the short to medium length struts but absent from the most slender long lobes; the knee in the lobes varies in position from near the middle to near the base and its presence is the unifying character of the species concept; the outer corona-lobes vary in the length of the lobules. Speculations on the reason or reasons for the variability are bound to arise and it is merely pointed out that the closely allied species C. zeyheri, with long slender corolla-lobes, has been recorded from within the distribution range of C. geniculata, although only rarely. The next closest relative, C. connivens, with short broad struts, occurs only further west in the Worcester district. C. zeyheri and C. connivens have not been recorded together in the wild. From: Dyer, RA. 1980. Asclepiadaceae. In: OA Leistner (ed.). Fl. S. Africa 27(4): 1-88. [CC BY] As: Ceropegia geniculata R.A.Dyer
Mingled with low Karoo bushes. From: Dyer, RA. 1980. Asclepiadaceae. In: OA Leistner (ed.). Fl. S. Africa 27(4): 1-88. [CC BY] As: Ceropegia geniculata R.A.Dyer
This species has been recorded in recent times from several localities in the Little Karoo from Ladismith to Oudtshoorn district. From: Dyer, RA. 1980. Asclepiadaceae. In: OA Leistner (ed.). Fl. S. Africa 27(4): 1-88. [CC BY] As: Ceropegia geniculata R.A.Dyer
