Mehrjährige, bis 40 cm hohe, krautige bis strauchige Pflanze. Blätter gegenständig und starr, eiförmig, 30 x 10 mm bis 40 x 8 mm, einnervig, selten schwach dreinervig, Rand nach unten eingerollt, oberseits reichborstig, unterseits auf der Fläche etwas verkahlend, graugrün. Köpfchen einzeln an bis 15 cm (selten bis 20 cm) langen, oben dicht samtig behaarten Pedunkeln. Involucrum zweireihig, bis beinahe 20 mm im Durchmesser. Die äusseren Hüllblätter schmal lanzettlich, 8 x 0.8 mm, starr borstig, die inneren lanzettlich, 8 x 1 mm, einrippig, verkahlend; alle an der Spitze ± gefranst. Zungenblüten zahlreich, Ligula 17 x 3.5 mm, weissblau, kurz vor der Röhre mit blauvioletter Zone. Scheibenblüten zahlreich, Krone bis 6 mm lang, gelborange. Pappusborsten zahlreich, bis 6 mm lang, weiss, schwach gezähnt, ± persistent. Achänen elliptisch, obovat, 3 x 1.2 mm, dunkelbraun, schwach schuppig, dicht gleichmässig mit bis zu 0.2 mm langen Haaren, mit Randwulst. From: Grau, HRJ. 1973.
