Perennials with woody branches up to 0.15 m long, leaves clustered and clasping around stems and forming rosette-like buds only in resting period. Leaves elliptic-oblong to oblanceolate, 3-8(-10) x 1.5-3 mm, obtuse, glabrous except for prominent marginal cilia about 1.5 mm long, dorsiventrally flattened to membranous but usually tough, usually scarcely spreading even on peduncles; sheath 1-2 mm long. Inflorescence an almost flat-topped thyrse with many flowers. Calyx: lobes triangular, glabrous, acute. Corolla: lobes oblong-oblanceolate, each with rounded apex and indistinct dorsal appendage, smooth. Anthers 0.3-0.5 mm long, yellow. Squamae oblong-cuneate and usually at least three times longer than broad. Carpels with reniform ovaries and short styles about a quarter of the length of the ovaries. From: Toelken, HR. 1985.
