Fruticulus erectus dense corymboso-ramosus 1-2 dm altus; rami rigidi teretes striati densissime foliati glabri vel juniores asperi-setulosi; rami vetustiores usque 3 mm crassi cicatricosi cortice griseo-fusco obtecti. Folia alterna sessilia erecto-patentia usque patentissima rigida lineari-subulata mucronato-pungentia subtus ± conspicue carinata recta vel leviter curvata ± dense aspero-setulosa 5-20 mm longa 0.5-1.5 mm lata. Capitula in apicibus ramulorum solitaria vel rarius 2-3-pedimculata; pedunculi 1-5 cm longi glanduloso-asperi bracteis paucis lineari-subulatis 2-4 mm longis instructi. Involucrum campanulatum 4-6 mm altum; squamae imbricatae 2-3-seriatae virides vel passim rubro-violascentes apice acuminatae dorso ± asperae glandulosae margine scariosae, exteriores lineari-lanceolatae 3-4 mm longae, interiores lanceolatae 4-6 mm longae 1-2 mm latae. Flores radii 8-10; ligulae supra albae subtus aurantiacae vel flavae involucrum duplo superantes; flores disci aurantiaci vel flavi involucrum fere aequilongi; ovarium epapposum vel rarius pappo minutissimo lacerato instructum. Achaenia glabra dura incurva reniformia lateribus radialibus leviter applanata 2-3 mm longa, latere dorsali valde convexa striato-sulcata, latere ventrali concava costa longitudinali biareolata semper cavernam ventralem includentia. Roughly hairy, willowy shrublet to 20 cm. Leaves filiform, spreading. Flower heads radiate, solitary or few at branch tips on short wiry peduncles, yellow or white with orange reverse. The specific name refers to the leaves, which are more or less densely covered with hard, raised points or very short bristles. It is a small shrub characterized by its dense, linear-subulate, rigid, subacicular leaves and its small, incurvate, reniform achenes (2-3 mm long), which have quite a large, closed ventral cavity.
