Diagnostic description

The ray flowers are white like alabaster above and violet-blue, striate and often bordered with white beneath. The disc is azure-blue, and the inner disc flowers have slightly gibbous corolla lobes. D. ecklonis is nearly related to D. fruticosa and D. acutifolia. It differs from the former species int. al. by its acutely triangular, usually reticulate-rugose achenes, by its narrower, never broadly obovate leaves, and by its habit of growth. It is distinguished from the latter species int. al. by its achenes, which are not bluntly triangular, and by its broader leaves. From: Norlindh, NT. 1943. Studies in the Calenduleae: 1. Monograph of the genera Dimorphotheca, Castalis, Osteospermum, Gibbaria & Chrysanthemoides. C.W.K. Gleerup, Lund. [All rights reserved]
