Uses

The species of Aphytis are the most important natural enemies of serious pests such as armored scale insects. Since this group of scale insects includes many scale pests of orchards, especially citrus, the parasites of the genus Aphytis are of great importance in regulating scale populations and reducing their numbers to a non-economic level. Aphytis species have been used as biological control in citrus orchards of California, Israel and South Africa successively with the help of these tiny but extremely valuable insects (Quednau 1964)
