Radix tuberosa. Caulis erectus vel saepius etiam volubilis, striatus, glaber, subramosus, sparse foliatus, 20 cm et ultra longus. Folia basi angustata sessilia, lanceolata (20 x 5mm), oblonga (25 x 10 mm), linearia (10-70 x 1-3 mm), apice acuta, basi utrinque majore dente vel lobo instructa, de cetero adpresse denticulata vel crenulata vel grossius dentata, crassiuscula, glabra. Flores in racemo terminali secundo, multifloro, saepe laxo. Bracteae foliaceae, lineares, acutae, integerrimae vel basi bidentatae, circiter 4 mm longae. Pedicelli uno-, raro usque trifloro, 3-4 mm longi, puberuli, in medio bibracteolati. Calycis tubus turbinatus vel subpatelliformis, glabrescens; lobi ovato-lanceolati vel triangulares, 2 mm longi, integerrimi, erecti. Corolla7-13 mm longa, glabra, albida vel malvacea, intus basin versus puberula, bilabiata: labium superius 3-fidum, inferius 2-petalum, lobi extremi lanceolati, unguiculati. Stamina 6-7 mm longa: filamenta pubescentia, ad basin dilatata; antherae oblongae, in dorso pilosae, c. 2 mm longae. Perennial herb, root tuberous; stem erect or often also twining, striate, glabrous, somewhat branched, sparsely leafy, > 0.2 m long. Leaves sessile, lanceolate (20 x 5 mm), oblong (25 x 10 mm) to linear (10-70 x 1-3 mm), apex acute, at base on both sides with a large tooth or lobe, further on appressed-denticulate or crenulate or coarsely toothed, somewhat thickened, glabrous. Flowers in a secund, many-flowered, often lax, terminal raceme. Pedicels 1(-3)-flowered, 3-4 mm long. Corolla 7-13 mm long, glabrous, white, puberulous inside towards base. Twining, tuberous geophyte. Leaves linear to lanceolate, slightly toothed. Flowers in upper axils, bilabiate, laterally slit, deep mauve, 10-12 mm long, stamens 6-7 mm long, all anthers bearded. Folia valde variabilia, linearia usque oblonga, brevia, semper inaequaliter adpresse calloseque denticulata vel grossius dentata, imprimis supra basin dente vel lobulo elongato munita.
