Diagnostic description

Osteospermum breviradiatum has achenes of the same type and size as O. amplectens. It also agrees quite well with certain forms of the variable O. amplectens in respect of the shape of the leaves as well as of the ramification and pubescence. The essential difference between O. breviradiatum and O. amplectens consists in the relation between the length of the ray flowers and the involucre. In O. breviradiatum the ray flowers are as long as the involucre or but little (I-2 mm) longer, but in O. amplectens on the other hand they are about three times as long as the involucre.
