Morphological description

Much-branched shrub with a partly subterranean tuber. Stems vimineous, angular, sulcate or cylindrical, herbaceous but becoming woody with age. Leaves borne in clusters of 3-4 on short branchlets; lamina reniform , 5(-7)-palmatilobate to 5(-7)-palmatipartite, sparsely hirtellous with many pyriform-headed glandular hairs in between; stipules membranous or recurved persistent spines. Pseudo-umbels 2-5-flowered. Pedicel (5-10 mm) shorter than hypanthium (10-30 mm). Petals 5, light purple to purple or white with dark purple streaks; posterior two 10-20 mm x 5-8 mm; anterior three 10-13 mm x 2-4 mm. Twiggy shrub, up to 1.5 m tall, with brittle branches from a massive partly exposed tuber. Leaves clustered on short shoots, with slender petioles, blade round, 15-20 mm diam., margin shallowly incised. Flowers 3-5 per very short peduncle, on pedicels 2-10 mm long, ± 20 mm diam., petals 5, purple, hypanthium ± 5 mm long. From: Snijman, DA. 2013. Geraniaceae. Deciduous shrub to 1.5 m, with twiggy and brittle branches from a massive and partly exposed tuber. Leaves round, margin shallowly incised, roughly hairy, 1.5-2.0 cm diam.
