Perennial, rosulate, unbranched herb, 0.06-0.30 m high. Leaves: basal leaves obovate to lanceolate, margins sparsely dentate, trinervate from base, upper surface densely glandular, lower surface white-felty and glandular on nerves; cauline leaves alternate, linear, subulate, margins revolute, middle cauline leaves longest, upper leaves going over into involucral bracts, lower surface white-felted. Capitula radiate, solitary or up to 5 at ends of stem; involucre funnel-shaped; bracts imbricate, narrowly ovate to linear, long-acuminate, hairy. Ray florets white. Disc florets white or yellow. Flowering time Dec.-Mar. Pappus of outer row of scales and inner row of 3 or 4 barbellate bristles. Cypselae narrowly oblong, 3-ribbed, with few hairs at base. From: Cron, GV; et al. 2019. Perennial herb, up to 350 mm high; rosette plant. Flowering stems slender, wiry, often straggling, mostly simple, ± glandular-hairy and tomentose. Leaves of two kinds: basal leaves in a rosette, sessile, with blade elliptic to obovate, up to 200 x 100 mm, apex acute or broadly acute and mucronate, base broad, margins remotely denticulate, upper surface densely glandular-hairy, lower surface white-tomentose and glandular-hairy on veins, often 3-veined; stem leaves alternate, sessile, with blade linear, patent, up to 50 x 1.5(-3.0) mm, smooth above, white-tomentose below, margins strongly revolute, with single main vein. Heads radiate, terminal, solitary or few together on bracteate peduncles. Involucre turbinate; involucral bracts 7-9-seriate, ± 10 x 6-10 mm, bracts cobwebby, long-acuminate, tips somewhat recurved. Receptacle epaleate. Flowers: ray florets female, fertile, white; disc florets bisexual, white or yellow; Jan., Feb. Fruit with cypsela narrowly oblong, 3-ribbed, glabrous, ± 1.75 mm long. Pappus biseriate, inner row of 3(4) delicate, subbarbellate bristles, soon caducous, outer row of delicate, narrow scales of different lengths, partly connate at base, so disposed that they appear to be only ± 5 in number and fimbriate.
