Morphological description

Vigorous, moderately or little branched, erect, glabrous shrubs or shrublets, 0.15-1.8 m tall. Branches closely leafy towards the tips, lower down nude and marked with scale-like persistent leaf-bases. Leaves closely set, erecto-patent-spreading, linear-lanceolate- oblanceolate-narrowly oblong, 1-10 cm long, 2-20 mm wide, 3(-4) -toothed at the apex, flat with a distinct midrib and with or without fainter lateral veins; leaf-base dilated, clasping or ± half-clasping; leaf-margins smooth or somewhat (minutely) undulate-denticulate. Peduncles terminal at the branch ends (= ramification points), solitary or 2-5 together, erect-erecto-patent, about equalling the leaves in length or somewhat longer, with a tuft of wool at the base. Involucre broadly campanulate, 1-2 cm in diam. Involucral bracts subuniseriate, 10-18, connate to 1/4-1/2; the free lobes ovate-lanceolate, puberulous-tipped. Receptacle convex, distinctly alveolate with pit-margins raised and with tooth-like projections. Ray-florets about equalling the involucral bracts in number, yellow. Lamina (narrowly) elliptic-oblong, 6.5-17 mm long, 4-7-nerved. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.5-1 mm long. (Staminodes sometimes present.) Disc-florets c. 50-100 or sometimes more. Corolla 4-5.5 mm long, campanulate above. Anthers 1.8-2.2 mm long incl. the ovate appendage. Style terete with swollen base; style branches 0.5-0.9 mm long. Pappus bristles numerous, 1-4 mm long, the outer shorter and reflexed over the ovary, white, distinctly or indistinctly barbellate. Diagnostic description

E. evansii is a very characteristic species with its apically three-toothed, flat and broad leaves.
