Shrublets 1.5-2.5 dm high, repeatedly branching from the base. Leaves narrowly oblong, 1-3.5 cm long, 2-5 mm wide, midribbed, without lateral veins. Leaf-teeth 3, ovate, 1-2 mm long, 0.5-1.5 mm wide, acute, apiculate. Leaf-margins irregularly and bluntly denticulate. Peduncles solitary or seldom 2 together, 2-3.5 cm long, overraging the leaves, c. 0.8-1 mm thick, striate. Involucre 1-1.5 cm in diam. Involucral bracts 10-13, 6-9 mm long, green with a reddish-purplish tinge, connate to 1/4-1/3; the free lobes lanceolate, 5-7 mm long, 1.5-2 mm wide, indistinctly veined, puberulous-tipped. Ray-florets: Tube 2 mm long, cylindrical. Lamina narrowly elliptic-oblong, 8-10 mm long, 3 mm wide, 4-nerved. Style branches 0.6-0.8 mm long. (Staminodes 2, filiform.) Disc-florets c. 50. Corolla 5-5.5 mm long. Tube 2-2.3 mm long, cylindrical. Limb narrowly campanulate, 3-3.2 mm long; lobes ovate. 1 mm long. Anthers 2 mm long. Style branches 0.8 mm long. Pappus bristles 2-4 mm long, fairly smooth-laxly barbellate with: suberect and appressed teeth. Achenes (immature) narrowly oblong, c. 2 mm long, glabrous, with c. 8 longitudinal ribs. From: Nordenstam, RB. 1968. The genus Euryops I. Opera Bot. 20: 7-409. [All rights reserved]
Ssp. parvus is a small diffuse shrublet with denticulate leaf-margins and much smaller leaves than the other two subspecies. The striking differences in habit and size between ssp. parvus and ssp. evansii cannot be explained merely as a result of modification. Ssp. evansii reaches the same altitudes as the former without changing its characteristic dendroid habit and large leaf-size. From: Nordenstam, RB. 1968. The genus Euryops I. Opera Bot. 20: 7-409. [All rights reserved]
Ssp. parvus is only known from two localities in the Giant's Castle area in the Drakensbergen, where it seems to be confined to the alpine belt (collected at c. 2700-2900 m s.m.). The distribution thus lies within the range of ssp. evansii, and the interrelation between these taxa deserves further study when more material becomes available. From: Nordenstam, RB. 1968. The genus Euryops I. Opera Bot. 20: 7-409. [All rights reserved]
