Slender, ascending, much branched, nearly or quite glabrous; stipule solitary, falcate; leaves on very long petioles, 5-foliolate, leaflets linear or linear lanceolate, acute, very narrow, complicate; racemes opposite the leaves and terminal, laxly 3-4 flowered; calyx narrow, acute at base, the upper segments lanceolate, sub-connate, the lower subulate; legume falcate, glabrous. From: Harvey, WH. 1862. Leguminosae. In: WH Harvey & OW Sonder (eds), Leguminosae to Loranthaceae. Fl. Cap. (Harvey) 2: 1-285. Lovell Reeve & Co. Ltd., London. Prostrate shrublet, up to 1.4 m across, woody basally. Leaves mainly 5-foliolate, ± glabrous, leaflets linear. Flowers 1-4, in short congested racemes, yellow, calyx lobes long, narrow, upper and lateral pairs fused high up, minutely hairy to densely silky, back of standard sometimes minutely hairy on midrib. Pod stalked, linear, distinctly falcate, compressed. From: Boatwright, JS. 2013. Fabaceae: Leobordea. In: DA Snijman (ed.), Plants of the Greater Cape Floristic Region 2: The Extra Cape flora. Strelitzia 30: 389-390. South African National Biodiversity Institute, Pretoria. [CC BY]
In foliage and flower this is puzzlingly like L. quinata, but the inflorescence and legume are quite different. Stems filiform, 6 inches high, flexuous. Petioles 1-1 1/2 inches long; leaflets 1/2 line wide, 1/2 inch long, pale green. Legume 1 1/2 as long as the calyx, not a line wide, strongly curved backwards. From: Harvey, WH. 1862. Leguminosae. In: WH Harvey & OW Sonder (eds), Leguminosae to Loranthaceae. Fl. Cap. (Harvey) 2: 1-285. Lovell Reeve & Co. Ltd., London. [https://doi.org/10.5962/bhl.title.821] [All rights reserved]
