Morphological description

An annual herb, erect or ascending, very nearly glabrous, 76-203 mm [as '3-8 in.'] high, branched at the base or nearly simple; stem and branches striate, terete; radical leaves rosulate, narrowly oblanceolate, obtuse or rounded at the apex, attenuate at the base, more or less deeply pinnatifid, glabrous, 0.5-1.5 in. long, 0.125-0.334 in. broad; teeth or lobes ovate or oblong, obtuse; petioles 0.25-0.75 in. long, dilated towards the base; upper leaves alternate or fasciculate, often distant; peduncles axillary or subradical or subfasciculate and subterminal, slender, 1-flowered, 25-76 mm [as '1-3 in.'] long; flowers nodding, large, about 0.75 in. in diam.; calyx-segments ovate, acuminate at the apex, broad and overlapping near the base, 0.125-0.167 in. long, ciliolate with very short whitish hairs; corolla slightly puberulous outside, about 0.5 in. long and 0.67-0.75 in. broad, with two wide pouches (about 0.1 in. long and and broad) at the base; stamens all fertile; two lower filaments dilated and incurved at the middle; young capsules obliquely ovoid, short. Annual, up to 320 mm tall. Leaves elliptic to obovate, pinnatifid or pinnatisect. Flowers with lanceolate-acuminate calyx lobes, corolla greyish to deep magenta, limb 12.5-26.5 mm long, tube with small yellow spot below each upper lobe and 3 larger yellow patches in tube at base of lower lobe, sacs ± 2.5-4 mm long, curving upwards, filaments erect, densely pubescent with dark purple trichomes, posterior ones bent backwards towards upper lip. Annual to 32 cm. Leaves elliptic to obovate, pinnatifid or pinnatisect. Flowers axillary, 2-saccate, greyish magenta with dark centre, yellow stamen-bearing boss and a small, yellow spot below each upper corolla lobe and 3 larger spots at base of lower corolla lobe, limb 12.5-26.5 mm long, sacs ± 2.5-4.0 mm long, greyish magenta.
