Much branched shrublet or bushy shrub 0.3-1.2 m tall, often herbaceous above and woody below, yellow-green or grey-green, strongly aromatic and somewhat viscid; stems shortly and often crisply tomentose and gland-dotted, eventually glabrescent. Leaves shortly petiolate; blade irregularly lyrate-pinnatifid, coriaceous, (10-)15-40 x (5-)10-20 mm, markedly rugose, shortly hispid above, denser to crisped, strongly reticulate and freely gland-dotted beneath. Inflorescence simple, of up to 14 verticils, spaced below, more crowded above, verticils 4(-6)-flowered. Calyx glandular-hispidulous, up to 8 mm long in fruit. Although shrubby in habit, the floral characters suggest a closer relationship to the herbaceous species which follow rather than to the preceding shrubby species.
