Crassula barbata Thunb. subsp. barbata
LC Indigenous Endemic

Morphological description

Leaves usually obovate to often oblanceolate, rarely lanceolate, 20-35(-40) x 10-20(-25) mm, with cilia 3-5 mm long. Corolla: lobes oblong to oblanceolate with apices becoming more recurved with age. Carpels with almost conical ovaries constricted into short styles and with large bulging, laterally placed stigmas. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY]

Diagnostic description

The shape and size of the leaves of this species are often variable within the same population, but there is a tendency towards narrow leaves eastwards towards Prince Albert. Throughout the range the species is, however, easily distinguished by the very long marginal cilia which are often clustered into groups, particularly in the Cedarberg. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY]

Habitat

Growing on gravelly slopes but often associated with large rocks. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY]

Distribution

Found in the Cape Province in mountains bordering on the south-western parts of the Great Karoo from the eastern Cedarberg to near Prince Albert. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY]
