Morphological description

Spreading shrub, 0.5-1.2 m. Leaves 3-foliolate. Flowers in tightly capitate inflorescences, purple or mauve. From: Stirton, CH; Schutte, AL. 2012. Fabaceae: Psoralea L. Perennial, laxly spreading shrub, up to 400 mm high, shoots up to 1.2 m long, resprouter. Stems green, ribbed. Stipules adnate to base of petioles, subulate, acute, appressed. Leaves 3-foliolate. Leaflets linear, acute at both ends, sparsely pilose to glabrous, nigro-punctate. Inflorescences aggregated in 1 or 2 axillary heads, terminating seasonal shoots, subtending leaf 3-4x longer than the inflorescence. Flowers violet, subsessile, shorter than subtending leaf. Cupulum 3-fid, ovate lanceolate, large, overlapping calyx tube. Calyx: lobes lanceolate, long-acuminate, glandular, sparsely hairy. Petals: standard obovate, violet with white nectar patch; wings violet, equal to keel. Flowering time Nov.-Apr. From: Boatwright, JS; et al. 2019. Fabaceae.
