Morphological description

Leaf margins always strongly undulate. Spathe bracts 70-150 mm long, up to 85 mm wide, reaching above tepal tips. Tepals 25-38 mm long, erect at peak flowering stage. Filaments 40-50 mm long. Habitat

It is encountered close to the coast in seasonally moist, deep sands mainly on limestone flats or rarely on isolated low granite outcrops, in several vegetation types including Saldanha Flats Strandveld and Namaqualand Strandveld. Distribution

The most southerly populations of subsp. haemanthoides occur at Churchhaven and around Langebaan and Saldanha on the Cape West Coast and the taxon extends north along the coast to Hondeklip Bay in southwestern Namaqualand.
