Morphological description

Verosim, annua, acaulis, radix? Folia ± erecta, firme papyracea usque tenuiter coriacea, lanceolato-elliptica vel elliptica vel ovato-lanceolata, superne brevius vel longius cuneatim angustata, apice ipso obtusiuscula, inferne cuneato-arcuatim vel et longius cuneatim in petiolum transeuntia, 5-15 cm longa, 2-4.5 cm lata, valde irregulariter dentata vel grosse dentata, parce villis brevibus inspersa vel glabrescentia, nervis 5 supra parum distinctis, subtus latiusculis, conspicuis, petiolus lamina brevior. Inflorescentiae paucae; spicae pedunculus folia superans, 9 cm usque nonnunquam 35 cm altus, erectus, angulato-compressus, cum spicae rhachi villis longioribus canescentibus inspersus; spica angusta 12-30 cm longa, usque ad apicem perlaxa vel et superne densior. Bractea a calyce parum distans, 1/2-2/3 calycis aequans, elliptico-triquetra, 2 mm vel parum ultra longa, parum ciliolata, carina valida, angusta, laminis lateralibus tenuibus. Sepala 2.75 mm longa, supra carinae apicem margine membranaceo angustissimo instructa. antica angustiora elliptica, parum angustata, carina laminis lateralibus angustiore; sepala postica latiora rotundato-ovata, superne minutissime ciliolulata, carina valida satis angusta. Corollae lobi rotundati vel ovato-rotundati, brevissime obtusiuscule apiculati, vel ovati, distincte angustati, 1.25-1.5 mm longi, nervo parum conspicuo. Antherae 2.5 mm longae, apiculo anguste triquetro. Ovula 2-3. Capsula conico-attenuata, apice subtruncata, bene evoluta calycem ejus longitudine superans, infra medium circumscissa; semina ambitu irregulariter anguste elliptica, nigricanti-brunnea, ad 3 mm longa, dorso parum convexa. facie hili parum concava, anguste marginata. Annual? herb, 0.32-0.95 m high. Leaves in basal rosette, narrowly lanceolate, up to 150 x 45 mm, coarsely dentate, glabrescent; petioles flattened. Inflorescences: spikes 120-300 mm long; scapes few per rosette, up to 200-650 mm long; bracts slightly villous, acute. Calyx lobes elliptic, ± 3 mm long, not winged, acute. Corolla lobes rotund or ovate, ± 1.4 mm long, acute. Fruit an ellipsoid capsule. Seeds boat-shaped, dark brown to black, up to 3 mm long, hilum scar in a long ventral depression. Diagnostic description

Pflanze von mittlerer Große, wohl einjahrig, ohne Rhizomentwicklung. Die Zahnung des Blattrandes 1st sehr verschieden ausgepragt, es konnen wenige starke, unregelmaßige, nach aufwarts gerichtete Zahne vorhanden sein, oder es wechselt schwache Zalmelung mit einzelnen starkeren zackigen Zahnen ab oder der gauze Rand ist nur unregelmaßig schwach gezahnt. Die Ahre kann bis zur Spitze hinauf sehr locker sein, wobei besonders im unteren Teil Einzelblüten oder kleine Gruppen von 2-3 Blüten dureh langere Zwischenraume getrennt sind, oder sie ist (auch im alteren Stadium) nach oben zu dichter, nach unten zu sehr locker.
