It reaches nearly 10 cm in diameter in the wild. Most clones are single, rarely 2-3 headed, but never in groups. May be the most robust and white spine species of the genus. It resembles to H. arachnoidea v. gigas, but spines are more robust, comb-like, glassy and very white.
