PLANTAE / PHANEROGAMAE / ANTHOPHYTA / SAXIFRAGALES / CRASSULACEAE / CRASSULOIDEAE / CRASSULA / UNDULATA
Perennial shrublets up to 0.4 m high, often much branched, branches covered with recurved hairs at least when young, old leaves not deciduous. Leaves oblong-elliptic to rarely ovate, (5-)8-15(-35) x 4-13(-15) mm, obtuse, dorsiventrally flattened to slightly convex on lower surface, glabrous except for near-spherical cilia, green to yellowish green or sometimes tinged red. Inflorescence a flat to round-topped thyrse with few to many dichasia, without distinct peduncle. Calyx: lobes triangular to lanceolate, 3-4 mm long, sharply acute and often terminating in a point, usually glabrous, fleshy, green. Corolla tubular, fused at base for 1-1.3 mm, white often tinged red or pink; lobes oblanceolate-oblong, 6-8 mm long, acute, with dorsal appendage, strongly recurved or reflexed. Stamens with brown anthers. Squamae transversely oblong, 0.2-0.3 x 0.5-0.6 mm, truncate or slightly emarginate, scarcely constricted downwards, somewhat fleshy, yellow. Flowering period: (October) November-February. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY] As: Crassula dejecta Jacq.
Shrublet, with erect, slightly woody, sparsely hairy branches, 60-400 mm tall. Leaves sessile, oblong-elliptic to ovate, dorsiventrally flattened, 8-15 x 4-13 mm, margin with stout hairs. Flowers nearly sessile, in several clusters arranged in a flat- to round-topped head, on a short, roughly hairy peduncle, tubular, petals 6-8 mm long, fused in lower 1 mm, with a sharp terminal appendage, white, often tinged red. From: Bruyns, PV. 2013. Crassulaceae. In: DA Snijman (ed.), Plants of the Greater Cape Floristic Region 2: The Extra Cape flora. Strelitzia 30: 350-366. South African National Biodiversity Institute, Pretoria. [CC BY] As: Crassula dejecta Jacq.
Much-branched shrublet to 40 cm, branches recurved-hairy when young. Leaves opposite, oblong-elliptic to ovate, with rounded cilia. Flowers in subsessile, flat to rounded clusters, tubular, white tinged pinkish, petals ± 8 mm long. From: Manning, JC; Goldblatt, P; Bruyns, PV. 2012. Crassulaceae. In: J Manning & P Goldblatt (eds), Plants of the Greater Cape Floristic Region 1: The Core Cape flora. Strelitzia 29: 468-477. South African National Biodiversity Institute, Pretoria. [CC BY] As: Crassula dejecta Jacq.
The species can be divided roughly into a northern form with leaves 3-5(-6) mm broad (including type), while south of the Wintershoek Mountains they tend to be 8-10(-15) mm broad. However, south of the dividing line (e.g. Paarl Mountain, Tyson 956) a number of intermediates indicate that no taxonomic rank should be given to these forms. It is also interesting that plants recorded from Keerom in the Olifant's River valley (i.e. the southern parts of the distribution area of the northern form) produce ovate leaves. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY] As: Crassula dejecta Jacq.
Usually growing on large rock outcrops, often in crevices on rock ledges and usually on the south or southwest-facing aspect of mountains. From: Toelken, HR. 1985. Crassulaceae. Fl. S. Africa 14: 1-229. [CC BY] As: Crassula dejecta Jacq.
