Morphological description

Glabra, volubilis, alte scandens; ramis lignosis teretibus verruculosis, densius foliatis; foliis coriaccis glaberrimis, oblongis obtusis petiolatis, 8-12 cm. longis, 8-4 cm. latis, petiolo 1-1.5 cm. longo; cymis extra-axillaribus terminalibusve laxe corymbosis, plurifloris, foliis brevioribus, pedunculo pedicellisque brevibus glabris; calycis segmentis lanceolatis triangularibus acutis glabris; corolla patula, tubo subnullo; lobis carnosulis angnste lanceolatis acutissimis subflexuosis, 1.2 cm. longis; coronte foliolis erectis flexnosis setaceo-filiformibus acutissimis, gynostegium plure quam duplo excedentibus, corollae lobis subduplo brevioribus; antheris conniventibus, filamentis liberis, circuitu ovatis apice appendiculo obtuso glaberrimo donatis, loculis basin versus divergentibus; polliniis granulosis ovato-oblongis obtusis, caudicula brevi, glandula bene conspicua rotundato-quadrata. Woody, twining climber, 10 (-15) m long; stems stout, reddish brown. Leaves spreading, with interpetiolar stipular ridge; lamina narrowly oblong, 80-137 x 14-58 mm, apex obtuse, apiculate tip up to 14 mm long; midvein embossed above, prominent below, secondary veins at right angles to it, pronounced. Inflorescences axillary, cymose, 1-8-flowered. Flowers rotate, partly epigynous. Corolla yellow-green; lobes with median purple-brown line, almost free to base, twisted in middle, 12-14 x 4 mm; tube 1-2 mm long. Corona green, quadrate-triangular, upper outer edges shoulder-like, filiform appendage 8.0-8.5 mm long. Stamen apex connivent over style-stigma-head. Diagnostic description

The only noteworthy difference between our plant and the Mascarene species of Pentopetia lies in the very short tube of the corolla, and the glabrous appendices of the anthers.
