Pollinarium: pollinia 280-400 x 150-200 ?m, elliptic-oblong with an acute pellucid margin at apex; corpusculum elliptic, 120-190 x 70-80 ?m. Carpels glabrous. Follicles paired, acutely divergent, cylindrical, apically tapering, (90-)150-170(-210) x 2-4 mm diam. at centre; no distinct constrictions between seeds; seed dorsiventrally compressed, oblong-elliptic, 8-10 x c.2.5 mm, dark brown or blackish with a c.0.5 mm wide paler margin; coma c.20 mm long. Not infrequently there is overlapping in distribution with R. torulosa. When aberrant forms are recorded in such circumstances, it does not seem unreasonable to suggest that natural hybridization has taken place; an example of this is recorded under R. bolusii. In R. burchellii, besides the distinctive corona, the leaves are more constantly glabrous, or nearly so, and show a tendency to being cordate-ovate to cordate-lanceolate. B. Clarke 25, found near Barberton, in eastern Transvaal, seems closest related to R. burchellii, but differs in its miniature inflorescence, smaller corolla (shorter than 10 mm) and the absence of inner corona-lobes. From: Dyer, RA. 1980. Asclepiadaceae. In: OA Leistner (ed.). Fl. S. Africa 27(4): 1-88. [CC BY] As: Riocreuxia burchellii K.Schum.
