PLANTAE / PHANEROGAMAE / ANTHOPHYTA / ASPARAGALES / TECOPHILAEACEAE / TECOPHILAEOIDEAE / CYANELLA / ALBA / MINOR
Plants 80-150 mm high. Leaves filiform, 0.5-1.5 mm wide. Pedicels with bracteole sub-basal. Flowers 1-3, white to pale pink with darker pink on reverse. Anthers uniformly yellow. From: Goldblatt, P; Manning, JC. 2012. A revision of Tecophilaeaceae subfam. Tecophilaeoideae in Africa. Bothalia 42(1): 21-41. [CC BY]
Distinguished from the typical subspecies, which has similar white or pale pink flowers and uniformly yellow anthers, by the shorter pedicels, mostly < 100 mm (rarely up to 150 mm long) with the bracteoles sub-basal and thus difficult to distingsuih from the leaves. This led Manning et al. (2005) to conclude that bracteoles were lacking and we were only able to establish the true situation after having the opportunity of dissecting live plants. The plants are typically small in stature, with only 1-3 flowers per plant. From: Goldblatt, P; Manning, JC. 2012. A revision of Tecophilaeaceae subfam. Tecophilaeoideae in Africa. Bothalia 42(1): 21-41. [CC BY]
