Morphological description

Fruticulus erectus, glaber vel foliis sepalisque interdum inferne ciliatis, ad 30 cm altus; caulis basi incrassatus vel subtuberosus, 2.5 cm diam.; rami crassi, saepe 1 cm diam., nodosi, inferne foliorum reliquis induratis vel subspinescentibus onusti, axillis eorum gemmiferis; ramuli hornotini laete virides, 15 cm longi, internodiis 1-3 cm longis; folia saepe fere erecta, demum subpatentia, opposita vel suprema subopposita, semi-teretia, supra concava vel superne convexula, lateraliter visa superne parum angustata obtusa, laete viridia, levissima propter papillas planas, 2-7 cm longa, medio 6-7 mm lata, ad 6 mm diam., vagina subnulla; flores subternati vel 3-4 irregulariter evoluti quasi racemosi, diurni, diutini fragrantes, corolla 2.5 cm, vel post dies 14 ad 5 cm, diam.; pedunculi 1-2 cm longi; receptaculum clavato-turbinatum, apice 1 cm diam.; Sepala 5, inaequilonga, 1.5-2 cm, vel 2-2.5 cm, longa; petala vera 2-3-seriata, sat densa, primo tam viridia quam folia, demum pallidiora, obtusa vel acuta vel emarginata, ad 1.5 cm vel in flore senecto ad 2.5 cm, longa, 1 mm lata; staminodia numerosa; filamenta ad 7 mm longa, polline aureo; foveae nectariferae sat conspicuae, nec profundae; ovarium supra subconico-convexum; stigmata 5 gracilia acuminata, 6 mm longa. Decumbent, succulent geophyte to hemicryptophyte, with thickened roots, stems weakly lignifi ed, with a thick cork layer basally, mostly short, flowering stems longer. Leaves opposite and 4-ranked below infl orescence, otherwise alternate, subcylindrical, narrowly ovate, with large epidermal bladder-cells. Flowers up to 40 mm diam., greenish yellow. W aspect. Full sun. No biotic effect seen. Erect, compact, semi pachycaulis thick stemmed, dwarf leaf, succulent shrub, 0.3 m. All plants flowering (spectacular), pale green yellow. Occasional. De Beers Nuttabooi Survey, between Plot 1 & 2. A walkabout plant.
