Morphological description

Dwarf shrub, up to 0.2 m high; pubescent with short, rigid hairs, sessile and stipitate glands. Stems erect or decumbent, diffusely branched. Leaves with blade linear, 8-12 x 0.5-1.5 mm, margins entire. Flowers: solitary opposite a leaf; stamens borne on corolla, stipitate glands present on filaments; calyx campanulate, deeply 5-lobed, tube 5-6 mm long, strongly veined, lobes 3-6 mm long, narrowly ovate; corolla cup-shaped, limb 5-lobed, 15-20 mm in diameter, bluish purple; Sep.-Mar. Erect, shrubby perennial, up to 350 mm high, many shoots rooting at base. Leaves linear, up to 25 x 2 mm, glabrous to very hairy, sessile. Inflorescence a lax cyme; pedicels up to 6 mm long. Calyx up to 11 mm long, tube ± campanulate, lobes oblong, up to 3.5 mm long. Corolla tube up to 15.5 mm long, narrow, elongate, abruptly expanded, shallow limb up to 20 mm in diam., white to purple. Flowering time July-Dec. Fruit a 2-celled capsule, 4 mm long, with deeply bifid valves. Seeds 1 mm long, angular with netted-pitted surface. From: Welman, WG. 2019.
